Meet Starlette Rowland

Founder of G.L.O.W. Birth & Family Support
Hello, I’m Starlette Rowland—a Detroit-area doula, childbirth educator and Certified Lactation Specialist dedicated to helping individuals and families feel informed, respected and genuinely supported.
My connection to family support began long before I received professional training. Through years of caring for children, supporting loved ones and witnessing how easily families can feel unheard or left to manage difficult moments alone, I learned the importance of having someone present who will listen without judgment.
I created G.L.O.W. Birth & Family Support to provide the kind of care every family deserves: compassionate, practical, culturally respectful and centered on the family’s individual needs.
What G.L.O.W. Means
G.L.O.W. stands for Guidance, Love, Outreach and Wellness. These four values guide every service I provide.
Guidance means helping families understand their options and prepare thoughtful questions.
Love means approaching every family with patience, kindness and dignity.
Outreach means connecting families with education, healthcare and community resources beyond a single appointment.
Wellness means supporting the emotional, physical and educational needs of the entire family while remaining within my professional scope.
My Approach to Care
I understand that no two pregnancies, births, losses or postpartum experiences are the same. I take time to listen, learn what matters to each family and provide support that respects their culture, circumstances, relationships and choices.
My role is not to replace doctors, midwives, nurses, partners or family members. I work alongside the existing support team by providing continuous nonmedical care, education, comfort, encouragement and help communicating questions and preferences.
Partners and trusted family members are welcomed and encouraged to participate. My goal is to help everyone feel better prepared to support the birthing person and welcome the baby.

Why This Work Matters to Me
Pregnancy and birth can bring excitement, uncertainty, major decisions and life-changing transitions. Postpartum recovery can feel beautiful and overwhelming at the same time. Pregnancy and infant loss can leave families carrying grief that deserves to be acknowledged with patience and compassion.
No one should feel invisible, judged or alone during these experiences.
I am especially committed to improving access to support for Detroit and Wayne County families, including young parents, families experiencing financial hardship, individuals navigating pregnancy without a strong support system and parents who simply need someone dependable in their corner.
Support Rooted in Community
G.L.O.W. is more than a collection of services. It is part of a larger vision for healthier families, informed parents and stronger communities.
Whether you need complete doula support, childbirth education, help preparing for your baby, infant-feeding education or one focused conversation, I would be honored to learn about your needs.
